As the third most populous city in the country, Chicago is home to more than 2.7 million residents and is visited annually by nearly 50 million people. With attractions like the Willis Tower, world-class museums, a bustling nightlife, and plenty of history, it’s no wonder there are so many people traveling to enjoy what the city has to offer. Plus, with the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan within walking distance, visitors can enjoy a city experience and a lake experience in one.
For visitors who want to enjoy Lake Michigan, a trip to Navy Pier is a must. The pier, which extends out into the lake, offers plenty of family entertainment, including boardwalk rides, museums, concerts, fireworks, and more. While it’s open year-round, summertime is the best time to soak in the fun and the sun.
As the second-oldest Major League Baseball stadium in the country, Wrigley Field is a must-see for any sports lover. Home to the Chicago Cubs, it’s worth seeing a game during baseball season if you’re able to grab a ticket. If traveling during the off-season, you can still take a tour of the stadium to see the bleachers, the dugout, press box, and more for a nostalgic dose of America’s favorite pastime.
Commonly referred to as the Sears Tower, the Willis Tower is the second-tallest building in the Western Hemisphere, after One World Trade Center. At 1,451 feet, it’s home to the famous Skydeck attraction that lets visitors step outside of the building and onto a glass floor on the 99th floor to get a breathtaking view of the city both below them and in front of them.
With so much concrete around, it’s nice to enjoy a park sometimes. At Millennium Park, locals and visitors can enjoy concerts, films, workouts, nature programs, art exhibits, views of Lake Michigan, and more. The park is also home to the city’s famous stainless steel Cloud Gate sculpture, commonly known as “the bean” because of its shape.
If you’re a shopper, you’ll want to head to Chicago’s popular Michigan Avenue. Also known as the “Magnificent Mile,” this upscale street is home to premier shops, restaurants, bars, retail stores, art galleries, salons, boutiques, and more. It’s also the site of many events, including the annual Lights Festival and Run Mag Mile.
(234 square miles) that’s home to more than 2.5 million people, so many residents rely on the CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) to help them get around. The system boasts an intricate system of buses and trains that can get you to nearly any destination in the city. Chicago is also one of the last few cities with an “L” train system that runs elevated above the city. In addition, several CTA routes connect to Metra trains, which can take you to outlying suburbs of the city.
