In addition to popular attractions, visitors can find a plethora of restaurants, bars, and entertainment events all year round.
No trip to Washington D.C. is complete without a trip to the White House. Built in the late 1700s, the iconic white-pillared building has been the official residence and principal workplace of every U.S. president since John Adams in 1800. To tour the White House, visitors can submit a request through one’s Member of Congress, but must be done at least 21 days in advance.
Visitor’s from all over come to Washington D.C. to see the monument dedicated to Abraham Lincoln. Located on the western end of the National Mall, the famous seated sculpture of the 16th president is housed in a large Greek Doric temple and is surrounded by two inscriptions of his famous speeches: The Gettysburg Address and his Second Inaugural Address.
If you’re interested in museums, Washington D.C. boasts museums of all kinds (and many of them offer free entry). Visitors can explore the renowned Smithsonian museums that showcase everything from natural history to art to air and space and more. Admission is free and visitors can choose to take a guided or self-guided tour of the building.
There are plenty of monuments and statues to see along the National Mall, so for a different taste of history, head to Ford’s Theater. Today, visitors can tour the theater and learn more about the former president’s life and legacy.
