No Shortage of Beautiful Views Here!
If you love camping, you probably have your favorite go-to camping spots. However, if you’re willing to branch out, our Newark Airport parking members have a few great camping spots along the East Coast. Here are a few of our favorites:
Pine Grove Furnace State Park, Pennsylvania
The Blue Ridge Mountains stretch from Georgia to Pennsylvania and got their name from the blueish color they give off from a distance. Head to the tip of the range in Gardners and you’ll find Pine Grove Furnace State Park with 70 campsites and nearly 8 miles of hiking trails – some of which are right along the Appalachian Trail.
Entrance costs: Visit the Pennsylvania state parks prices page
Shenandoah National Park, Virginia
Hiking along the East Coast doesn’t get any better than Shenandoah National Park. The area, which sits between the Shenandoah River and the Virginia Piedmont, features more than 500 miles of hiking (with 1/5 of it along the Appalachian Trail). You’ll also find several major campgrounds, nine waterfalls, and “backcountry camping” to give you a true taste of the wilderness.

Assateague Island National Seashore, Maryland
When you think of Assateague Island, you probably think about the beautiful wild ponies that call the island home. Well, one of the best ways to observe these animals is to camp out on the island at Assateague Island National Seashore (located in both Maryland and Virginia). The area has plenty of campsites, swimming, fishing, and nature watching, but if you’re a hiking lover, there’s only 1 1/2 miles of trails.
Entrance costs: $3 individual (MD), $8 per vehicle (VA), $10 per 7-day motorcycle pass (MD)
Acadia National Park, Maine
Acadia National Park is the oldest national park east of the Mississippi River. Head to Mount Desert Island in Maine and you’ll find nearly every type of landscape to enjoy – from shorelines along the Atlantic Ocean to high-rising mountains to forested lookouts and more. Whether you like hiking, biking, or simply enjoy the terrain, Acadia has plenty to offer.
Entrance costs: $20 per vehicle; $5 per motorcycle; $5 per person (with no vehicle)
Everglades National Park, Florida
If wetlands and forests are more your camping preference, you’ll love a trip to Everglades National Park. This park is considered the largest subtropical wilderness in the U.S. and protects around 20% of the original Florida Everglades. At around 1.5 million acres in size, there’s no shortage of campsites, canoe trails, hiking trails, bird watching, fishing, biking trails, and more.
Entrance costs: $10 per 7-day vehicle pass, $5 per 7-day individual pass (with no vehicle)
Cloudland Canyon State Park, Georgia
While you may not think of Georgia when you think of places for great camping, Cloudland Canyon State Park is often referred to as the most scenic park in the state. Nestle yourself along the western edge of Lookout Mountain and discover 25 miles of hiking, two beautiful waterfalls, horseback riding trails, and more than 100 campsites.
Entrance costs: Visit the website for information.
