If you’re not a frequent traveler, you may be wondering what to pack in your carry-on bag for your upcoming trip. Our EWR parking company reminds you that carry-on bags have a size limit (usually 45 inches in combined length, width, and height) and if your bag exceeds this size, you’ll have to check it. Also keep in mind that many airlines let you bring a carry-on bag and a personal item. For ladies it’s usually a purse and for men it can be a laptop, camera bag, etc.
The first thing you should do is make a list of all of the essentials you need to bring with you. These could include things like:
- Passport
- Medication
- Wallet
- License/ID
- Laptop/Tablet
- Phone
- Important documents (work documents, homework, itineraries, etc.)
- Toiletries (contact lenses, mouthwash, toothpaste, etc.)
- Entertainment (mp3 player, magazines, book, etc.)
- Sleeping aids (neck pillow, eye mask, ear plugs, etc.)
- Electronics/fragile items
- Snacks (packaged)
You should also consider packing some items just in case your luggage gets lost or arrives late: a change of clothing, a toothbrush and toothpaste, an extra pair of underwear, deodorant, an extra pair of socks, and/or makeup.
After you make your list, note if any of your items are liquids or gels. If they are, make sure they’re in bottles that are 3.4 ounces or less and that all of the bottles are in a quart-sized plastic bag. Some airports require you to separate the bag of liquids from your carry-on, so make sure it’s easily accessible.
Remember…
Remember to pack your most important things in your carry-on bag. If your checked luggage gets lost, you don’t want to lose your laptop, passport, wallet, or other important items.
Also, since you can’t bring beverages through security, pack an empty water bottle and once you get through security, fill it up at a water fountain. This way, you can bring it on the plane with you and won’t have to purchase extra beverages.
