When you think of airports, “great food” probably isn’t one of the first things that come to mind and it’s probably because of the abundance of shrink-wrapped sandwiches and pre-made salads that line the refrigerator cases. If you’re a foodie, you expect more from a place that sees so many hungry travelers and luckily, EWR has stepped up their game.
Last year, EWR’s Terminal C was completely revamped during a $120 million makeover and to many travelers’ delights, more than 50 new restaurants were added to the area. Here are some of our EWR Airport parking company’s favorite places to check out:
Terminal C
Saison
This French bistro by chef Alain Ducasse is one of the more upscale restaurants in Terminal C. It features a variety of traditional French food, grilled meat and vegetable combinations, and a solid wine list. You’ll find things like roasted bone marrow, escargot, and croissant bread pudding as well as a few less formal options like a burger with bearnaise sauce. (Gates C120-139)
Caps Beer Garden
If beer is your go-to drink to kill time during a layover, you’ll love Caps Beer Garden. The gastropub from chef Dale Talde gives you a long list of international beer varieties as well as an Asian-inspired menu with dishes like Korean fried chicken, ginger crab and watermelon salad, and a raw bar . It’s a great place to hang out and try new things. (Gates C120-139)
Melange Petit Patisserie
If you have a sweet tooth, check out the many tasty offerings from chocolate master Jacques Torres. At Melange, you can dive into a Nutella salted caramel cookie, a half-dozen flavors of macarons, or a decadent chocolate tart. There’s also an abundance of freshly baked muffins, doughnuts, and bagels for an on-the-go breakfast. If you’re looking for something savory, the bakery also features appetizers, sandwiches, and salads. (Gates C70-99)
Vanguard Kitchen
If farm-to-table American dishes are what you’re craving, chef Dan Kluger has got you covered. Vanguard Kitchen features a menu of seasonal eats that include things like roasted salmon, grass-fed burgers, and a crispy portobello sandwich; there’s even a take on the beloved avocado toast. As a whole, the restaurant is one to try if you’re looking to stay relatively healthy with your meal choices. (Gates C101-115)
Right now, Terminals A and B are on the downside of chef-inspired eats, but there are plans to renovate EWR’s Terminal A by 2022. In the meantime, here are a few places our EWR Airport parking company suggests for a quick bite to eat:
Terminals A & B
Earl of Sandwich
If you’re a sandwich person, you can’t miss Earl of Sandwich. This shop features hot sandwiches like the Hawaiian BBQ, the Full Montagu, and the Chipotle Chicken Avocado as well as cold wraps like the Spicy Tuna or the Thai Chicken. You’ll also find a variety of sandwich classics, salads, soups, and even pizza. (Gates A20-28)
Mediterranean Bistro
Here, you can enjoy a variety of Mediterranean-inspired eats that includes traditional hummus, falafel, shawarma, pitas, and even calamari. You’ll also find a handful of salads, smoothies, soups, burgers, and sides to satisfy your hunger. (Pre-Security Food Court or Gates B60-68)
Belgian Beer Cafe
This eatery features a relatively vast selection of premium beers as well as a menu of classic American fare with a fun twist. Once you’ve ordered your beer, grab an appetizer like the Steak Tartar, Abbey Cheese Croquets, or Duck Pate. For a more filling meal, you can dive into a Croque Monsieur or warm up with some Flemish Beef Stew. Or simply kick back with one of the many mussel offerings. (Gates B50-58)
