The Best Winter Vacations in the U.S.

Alaska

Winter’s not quite over and if you’re a fan of cold temperatures, skiing, snowboarding, or just the overall idea of snow, you can still book a fantastic winter getaway before the end of the season. Here are some of our EWR Airport parking company’s favorite places for a winter vacation:

Aspen, Colorado

If you’re a lover of snow, the city of Aspen is what we like to call a “winter wonderland.” With more than 5,000 acres of mountain terrain for skiing, snowshoeing, snowtubing, and snowboarding, you’ll find lots to do and plenty of space to do it. Plus, every slope gives you a gorgeous view of the rockies and plenty of fresh powder. When you’re done on the mountains, take a break to enjoy the city’s shopping scene, museums, galleries, and festivals.

Anchorage/Fairbanks, Alaska

For a touch of romance, hop on the Alaska Railroad and take a trip from Anchorage to Fairbanks. While in Fairbanks, check out the Aurora Ice Museum – a huge ice environment created from more than a thousand tons of snow. After that, spend the night under the shimmering lights of the Aurora Borealis before heading back to Anchorage for some adrenaline-pumping activities like ice climbing, cross-country skiing, dogsledding, and more.

Lake Placid, New York

Lake Placid is a beautiful spot for a vacation year round, but it’s especially magical during the winter. The town sits on the banks of the lake and offers beautiful, cozy lodges, renowned spas, a variety of shopping, and more, making it a great romantic getaway. Plus, the area has all you can imagine when it comes to winter activities including ice skating, skiing, bobsledding, luging, ice climbing, skeleton, and more, so there’s always something fun to do.

Yellowstone National Park

During the summer, Yellowstone sees nearly 2.5 million visitors every summer but far fewer during the winter, making it the perfect time to scope out some winter wildlife. With layers of snow along the landscape, you can easily spot bison, elk, coyote, wolves, and more while taking in the quiet beauty the park has to offer. Also, just because it’s winter doesn’t mean the natural springs and geysers go dormant – you can still enjoy things like Old Faithful and shimmering mineral pools.

Park City, Utah

If you’re looking for a family-fun vacation, head to Park City. While the area is known as a ski resort town (you can choose from Park City Mountain Resort, Canyons Resort, and Deer Valley Resort), you’ll find plenty of other activities to do. Check out a local sporting event, take a historic tour, meander through an interesting museum, or get a taste of culture at an art gallery or film festival. There’s something for the whole family in this Utah city.

Lake Tahoe, California

California may not come to mind when you think of winter wonderlands, but Lake Tahoe sees over 400 inches of snow every year. Head to the popular area and you can enjoy a cozy cabin with incredible views right after you dine at one of many delicious restaurants. When you’re up for some adventure, the area offers 18 world-class resorts for skiing, snowboarding, snowtubing, and more. Plus, there are plenty of spas, music performances, and lots of shopping opportunities.
